A retreat and resort, by nature, are accommodations located on a large piece of land surrounded by mountains, on a lake or river or centred around an attraction like hot springs, storm watching and spas. A resort is a destination, not a stopping point.

Resorts and retreats also tend to be heavily partnered with activity tours like fishing, skiing, wildlife tours, horseback riding, golf etc. Some of the resorts and retreats in British Columbia, Canada enjoy a high international profile and therefore cater to a very high end clientele arriving from all around the world.

Services available at some of the resorts and retreats in BC include things like specialty gift shops, meeting and conference facilities, weight rooms, live entertainment, restaurants, pubs, movie theatres, etc.

A British Columbia lodge tends to be, typically, a 2 - story, west coast style building. Many are large log homes settled on a private wilderness estate or on a private island. All are usually close to a popular eco activity like a ski mountain, backcountry trail system, ocean, canoe routes or fishing lakes.

Most lodges, retreats and resorts are fully self contained providing food, room service and beverages onsite.

The British Columbia resort, retreat and lodge accommodations tend to have higher rates in the peak seasons from May to September and are always offering adventure package deals.

At some of the mountain resorts the winter season is the peak season because of the skiing and snowboarding on a nearby mountain. Then there are other resorts that excel in the summer season like golf resorts, fishing resorts and spa retreats.

Some British Columbia resorts and lodges focus on solitude and privacy and do not have phones or TV in the rooms unless requested, so again ask if this important to you. Check operation hours as some B.C. Resorts and Lodges are very seasonal.
