A Retreat and Resort, by nature, are accommodations set up in the wilderness paired up with an eco activity like fishing, skiing, horseback riding, spa, golf etc. Many of the resorts and retreats cater to a very high end clientele from around the world while others cater to the everyday regular Joe and Jane.

Some of the high end resorts include specialty shops, meeting and conference facilities, weight rooms, live entertainment, restaurants, pubs, movie theatres, etc. The whole purpose is to have the experience planned, available and convenient.

A British Columbia Lodge tends to be, typically, a 2 - story, west coast style building close to an eco activity environment like a ski mountain, backcountry trail system, ocean, raging rivers, wilderness lakes, etc. Many are large log homes settled on a private wilderness estate or on a private island.

A Resort is a destination, not a stopping point. Lodges, Retreats and Resorts are fully self contained providing food, room service and beverages onsite.

Most British Columbia Resort and Lodge Accommodations have higher rates in the peak seasons from May to September and offer adventure package deals. Some resorts the off season is the summer and peak season is the winter - like the many mountain ski resorts. Then there are the others, like Golf Resorts, Fishing Resorts and Spa Retreats which tend to thrive in the summer months.

Some British Columbia Resorts and Lodges are retreat oriented focusing on solitude and privacy and do not have phones or a TV in the rooms unless requested, so again ask if this important to you. Check operation hours as some B.C. Resorts and Lodges are very seasonal.
