Off Roading ... taking it to
the wilderness. Yes, because of the abundance of mountains,
lakes, rivers, lush valleys and hectares and hectares of forests
- the back country off road areas are best accessed by miles
of rough and rugged logging gravel roads and decommissioned
railroad lines. It is of no surprise that British Columbia,
Canada is a popular gathering destination for many outdoor off-roaders.
BC has a long history in the forest and mining
industries. The expansion and growth of these two primary industries
created a need to build a complex trail and backroad infrastructure
leading deep into the wilderness. Many of the same roads are
used today for exploring deep into the back country by off-road
groups.
Whether the preferred mode of off road
transportation is a 4X4, light truck, jeep, motorbike or an
ATV... the province enjoys some of the best four wheeling routes
available in Canada. All, of which, provide an opportunity to
forge deep into the wilderness frontier climbing mountains and
crossing valleys.
BC is fortunate to have many experienced off-roading
adventure companies available to guide groups deep
into the wilderness frontier - safely zigzagging around the
network of roads leading to wilderness camp sites. Off-road
companies come in various forms of transportation like, for
example, exploring on an ATV, dirt bike, open air jeep or on
a 4x4 truck. Many tour groups offer half day, full day and multi
day wilderness camping off-roading trips exploring deep into
the forests of BC, Canada.
Some of the British Columbia's off-roading
routes are easy high gear exploring, while others require an
experienced guide, good planning and, of course, good solid
transportation. A guide is always a wise move because the road
system does change on a consistent basis due to the, sometimes,
harsh unexpected weather conditions in different areas of BC.
In the past, floods have washed out bridges, ongoing
logging alters the road system, fallen trees from wind storms
have blocked routes in and out. A guide knows the safest way
to navigate around these opportunities thrown at us by nature.
For many in the 4x4 community
the off-roading experience is quick way to
escape the city. For many 4x4 groups it is the means to access
a favorite fishing lake, a photographic summit, a mountain vista
picnic area or to escape for a weekend to their secret wilderness
camping spot.
