British Columbia, Canada canoeing is enjoyed on many of the lakes and rivers in the province. There are long canoe routes with portaging and wilderness camping. There are remote lakes and rivers at the end of backcountry roads with only roof top boat launches. There are developed lakes and rivers with facilities, campgrounds and much more.

Canoeing in BC is enjoyed in all seasons especially during the late spring, summer and early fall months. It is a great way to view the remote wilderness environment and wildlife.

Every year experienced canoers equipped with the proper gear and the know-it-all embark on long canoe routes on self guided adventures. Many multi day canoe routes have canoe racks, pit toilets, food caches and tent pads. Along some of the portage trails there are resting racks for the canoes and benches for the adventurers. It is always good to ask about guide certifications, price and what is expected.

On many of the calmer lakes and rivers people take to the water for day trips. Some of the developed lakes in the province have canoe rentals available with lessons and guides. Some tour companies provide multi day trips with wilderness camping, meals and entertainment.

One of the best known canoe routes in BC is the Bowron Lakes route located in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region.

These are just a few routes as there are many more in the province to explore.

The peak canoeing season begins in April and runs to late October. The end months depend more and more on weather conditions so the season can be shorter. The canoe tour companies operate typically from late May to late September.
