Year round... fisherman arrive in their favorite BC community, fishing licence in hand, eager to enjoy some time out on the water casting, jigging and trolling for the "Big One". Some arrive with decades of experience, their own tackle and a boat.... others, while they arrive in BC every year hooking up with their favorite fishing charter, guide and/or fishing lodge... who are always in tune and well aware of the best spots to fish in the region.

The fishing industry is an important part of our BC culture and economy. Commercial and recreational boats are often seen sharing the same docks and leaving, together, early in the morning to get a good start on the day.

There are over 6000 islands off the British Columbia coastline creating hidden bays, elusive coves, remote inlets ideal for salt water fishing. Throughout BC, there are many saltwater and fresh water marinas. Some marinas are very remote and primitive with little to offer but a place to tie up, while other marinas are modern with showers, Internet, power, accommodations and/or restaurants.

The fish that receives the most attention in BC, Canada is the Salmon - Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pink and Chum Salmon to be exact. For a switch in venue, many budding fisherman, prefer to fish for Halibut, Sole, Rockfish, Cod, etc.

British Columbia, Canada is a very mountainous region. Mountains accumulate snow. Snow turns to water and flows down the mountains into the rivers and streams creating more lakes. Whether it is fly fishing, casting from the shore or jigging from a belly-boat many of the prime fresh water fishing regions are accessed by 4X4 or via a floatplane or after a lengthy hike. Ahhh ... but not all though, as some prime fishing rivers are next door to communities or flowing through villages providing fishing spots accessible by foot. Fresh water fish include trout, steelhead and of spawning Salmon.

Fishing Tours and charters in British Columbia vary in many ways so do ask questions like how many are fishing per boat, what fishing gear is included and is the license, transportation, accommodations and/or meals provided?

Fishing in BC is seasonal in many regions and operating hours vary per charter company. But one thing is common - all fishing participants must have purchased a fishing permit before fishing in BC.

Plan accordingly as accommodations with fishing packages are limited with some tours not having accommodations onsite or included as part of the package.
