A British Columbia, Canada summer
brings out the best in all of us including nature. Spring, summer
and fall in British Columbia is when the gardens and nature conservatories
explode into rainbows of vivid reds, yellows, oranges and whites.
British Columbia has many acres
of land dedicated to wilderness gardens, desert
gardens, manicured gardens, rock gardens, heritage gardens, japanese
gardens, hobby gardens, community gardens
and/or specialty gardens. Many groups and associations
maintain the gardens on their own time operating as non profits.
The lush B.C. environment, the
quality soil and mild temperatures enable many gardens to stay
open year round. The BC garden tours are mostly self guided with
interpretive signs along the mapped out network of trails.
The bigger gardens do offer guided
tours at set times throughout the day and mostly throughout the
spring and summer seasons only. Many of the garden facilities
have concessions onsite, washrooms and restaurants except for
the rural remote wilderness gardens where you
have just beautiful gardens and hiking trails.
Although many of the BC gardens
are open year round, the spring season comes alive first with
daffodils, tulips, cherry blossoms blooming in full color. The
rhododendrons captivate your attention in the summer months along
with the Garry Oaks and Arbutus Trees. The number of species of
flora and fauna is countless in BC. Too many
to list.
It is always wise to check the hours of operation
for the garden you plan on visiting. The various
gardens throughout BC are usually situated close
to the communities or are within a short driving distance.
Some of the bigger gardens in British Columbia
hold many special events like art shows, light shows, business
functions, various exhibits, weddings and, on occasion, celebrate
certain holidays. |
