|
Kayaking in British Columbia, Canada is enjoyed in all seasons. During the late spring, summer and early fall months kayaking is the most popular. Kayaking is one of the best ways to view the remote wilderness environment so popular in our province. Every year experienced kayakers equipped with the proper gear, and know-it-all take to the lakes, rivers and oceans on self guided adventures. All, realize weather plays a big part in enjoying a safe and successful kayak adventure. On all self guided river tours kayakers should check the`river class ratings and the `put in` and `take out` points located along every river route. Inexperienced kayakers arrive every year for kayak tours. Some sign up for a short day tour while others sign up for a multi day tour with wilderness camping, meals and amazing wilderness and wildlife scenery. All kayak tour operators provide lessons, itinerary, gear and guides. It is always good to ask about guide certifications, price and what is included. Both day kayak and multi day kayak tour operators are available in all regions of the province. Some of the better known regions in the province for kayak tour operators include the westcoast of BC and in the interior of BC near some of the more powerful rivers and bigger lakes. On the westcoast of British Columbia is where sea kayaking is king. Some of the better known sea kayaking destinations with tour operators include Victoria, Cowichan Valley, Comox Valley, Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet on Vancouver Island.. and throughout the Gulf Islands and on the Sunshine Coast. BC rivers are well known in kayak circles of being some of the best white water kayaking routes in the Canada. Some of the rivers include the Adams, Eagle, Little Shuswap, South Thompson, Seymour, Coldwater and Nicola Rivers in the Thompson-Shuswap region. The Blackwater, Chilcotin, Nazko, Quesnel, Fraser, Goat and Dean Rivers in the Cariboo-Chilcotin-Coast region. The Blaeberry, Bull, Columbia, Elk, Kicking Horse, Kootenay, St.Mary, White and Yoho Rivers in the Kootenays. The peak kayaking season begins in April and runs to late October. The end months depend more and more on weather conditions so the season can be shorter. The kayak tour companies operate typically from late May to late September.
