Surfing is enjoyed on the Pacific Ocean on the westcoast of British Columbia, Canada. It is here, where rainforest meets ocean, that the big waves attract the surfers and the kilometres of sandy beaches attract thousands of visitors every year. All watch in awe as the surfers dip and dive maneuvering themselves for the big wave.

Surfing is enjoyed in all seasons. But is is during the late spring, summer and early fall months where surfing is most popular because of the manageable waves. It is during these months that the waves are best for beginners and for intermediate surfers.

In the summer it is not uncommon to see 30+ surfers out on the horizon waiting for the next good wave. Surfing on the westcoast is busiest during these sunshine months. It is during these months where surf shops are in high gear providing lessons, rentals and surf boards.

When the wind picks up in the winter months the waves take on a whole new personality - a bigger, stronger and more aggressive wave. It is during these months, when the waves are crashing hardest and the challenges are bigger... and the die hard, experienced surfer takes to the water in a dry suit with their surfboard in hand.

During these winter months when surfers dare the cold waters that storms hit the westcoast. It is a picture moment time of year when waves crash against cliffs sending a salt water spray hundreds of metres into the air. These same waves attract visitors to the area for storm watching.

The most popular destinations in British Columbia, Canada for surfing is on Vancouver Island in the communities of Tofino and Ucluelet. Both communities are separated by the many sandy beaches in the Pacific Rim National Park. There are surf shops in each community providing rentals and lessons. Each varies, so ask questions.
