BC, Canada tries to preserve and protect the wildilfe living and visiting in the province. Although, many would agree it could be allot better. Protection efforts has enabled some wildlife to prosper, some wildlife to increase in population numbers and some wildlife to claim back old territories.

But not all wildlife is safe from human expansion, in fact, some wildlife in BC are facing extinction. The environment and wildlife in British Columbia is an important part of our being and of who we are.

The mild climates in BC and the untouched remote wilderness areas do create a variety of eco systems throughout the province of British Columbia, Canada where wildlife thrives, both marine and land. So lets all try to respect wildlife and nature when touring in BC, Canada.

All the contact information for each accommodation and wildlife tour company is posted under the community sections posted on each regional website. Links are provided at the TOP of this PAGE connecting you to each regional website. So pick a region. Pick a community and start researching.

There are many opportunities to view remote wildlife in the province. Some luck out and see wildlife while driving the BC Highways, others spot wildlife while hiking a wilderness trail but most will view some of the hardest to find wildlife on one of the popular tour companies operating in the province.

Tours range in comfort, duration and transportation. There are tours aboard boats, 4X4s, zodiacs, ATVs, floatplanes, helicopters and on foot. Some tours include accommodations, guides and/or meals... so do your research and pick your comfort level.

Depending on your tour, it is not uncommon to view wildlife like Black Bears, Bald Eagles, Wolves, Moose, Deer, Cougars, Elk, Mountain Goats, Blue Herons, Whales, Sea Lions, Grizzlies and more.

The decision on what to view does depend on the seasons. Some wildlife hibernates during the winter - hidden out of sight. While others take flight or head out on a long swim or flight migrating to warmer climates and far-away feeding and breeding grounds.

Wildlife can appear tame, but do not be fooled, they are unpredictable and dangerous. The larger wildlife can be aggressive. It is against the law to feed wildlife in our National Parks. And it is against common sense to feed them too. Please always maintain a distance of 50 metres (150 feet) away.

Collisions between wildlife and vehicles is becoming more of an issue in British Columbia. There are over 500,000 animals (2001) killed on our major highways a year. Some precautions that have been put in place to prevent this injustice to our wildlife includes highway lighting and signs, fencing, wildlife over and under passes, repellents, noisemakers, driver education and reflectors. The best precaution to prevent collisions with wildlife is slowing down and staying alert while traveling our remote BC highways.

We have compiled a short list to the right that goes into a little more detail on some of the different wildlife species we enjoy photographing and observing while exploring British, Columbia, Canada.
